The S.M.S.L C200 Pro is designed to act as the hub of a high-fidelity desktop system—delivering precise DAC performance and headphone amplification with minimal footprint. Its heart is the ESS ES9039Q2M DAC chip, praised for its clarity, low noise floor, and ultra-high dynamic range. It handles PCM up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD up to DSD512, while also offering full MQA unfolding and MQA-CD compatibility.
On the analog side, it features a headphone amplifier that, while implemented in a single-ended topology, offers excellent power output—driving demanding headphones with ease. You’ll find both 6.35 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm jack outputs, plus line-out via TRS (balanced form) and RCA.
Connectivity includes USB (via the third-gen XMOS XU-316 controller), optical, coaxial, and Bluetooth 5.1 (supporting LDAC, aptX-HD, aptX, AAC, SBC). On USB it supports asynchronous mode up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD512. The unit also comes with a full-function remote for convenient control of inputs, volume, display, and power.
The enclosure is CNC-machined aluminum, compact (≈ 139 × 32 × 147.5 mm) and finished in black, keeping both visual elegance and practicality. Internally, it includes a custom low-noise switching power supply and dedicated low-noise rails for analog stages to maintain a quiet background.
Multiple digital filters are available to tailor sound to preference. The volume control is a click wheel on the front panel which also doubles to power on/off and menu navigation.
As a line-level device, it also acts as a preamp: the TRS and RCA outputs can feed active speakers or a power amplifier, making the C200 Pro flexible in a wider hi-fi setup.
